I love Notes. One of the reasons I love notes is that it's a way for me to support people who I don't subscribe to. I know that may seem a bit weird but their are people I love to support here but don't necessarily need to subscribe to because I'm not their target audience and their content isn't super relevant to me. I find notes a positive place to spend time unlike many of the mainstream social media platforms.
I totally agree with this, I love notes for a lot of reasons, including the one you’ve mentioned. It’s also a great place to share ideas that don’t need to be full posts, to test ideas to see if they’d make a good post, to discover new writers, and more!
What I don’t love is spending so much time on notes that I no longer have time to meditate or journal or do some yoga. I definitely won’t be giving notes up, I just needed to take back some control.
Well said Anna. I fear I have developed quite the dopamine addiction and it is keeping me from living more fully in my real life. Time to step back and reclaim control of my brain's attention.
I wonder if the narrative that Substack is not like other social media platforms actually makes it easier to get sucked in. I agree it’s so different in many ways, but I also think I had my guard down because it seemed much ‘safer’.
These are great tips! I think I need to delete the app and stick to my laptop because I am less likely to spend so much time on there. I also recently made an idea list of things I’d rather do. Some of mine are read, journal, meditate, pranayama, yoga, and drink cacao.
Yes it's so so easy to get caught scrolling for hours on your phone. I find I am much more intentional when I'm on my laptop! And I like to remind myself, deleting an app doesn't have to be permanent, so why not try it out.
